Since the internet began, the real world has almost always been shown in two dimensions: as a photo or a video. A picture is a moment in time. A video records a sequence of moments. Both can carry information, stir emotion and persuade. And both hold the viewer to one prescribed line of sight.

DFX SplatCore adds a third dimension to that familiar ground.

The aim is not to replace reality with artificial content. The aim is to make real things, spaces and scenes accessible on the internet in a way that lets them be viewed from different angles and understood better. Photos or videos of real objects and places become an interactive, digital 3D representation for the web.

Reality is the starting point

DFX SplatCore does not start from a text description and then generate some arbitrary picture. It always works from real footage: photos or videos of a product, a room, a work of art, a building or a landscape.

The camera captures the subject from different angles. The material is then processed into a spatial representation using 3D Gaussian splatting. The result is digital. It is not an invented scene. It rests on the visible properties of a real original.

That difference is fundamental.

A generative image AI can depict an object that looks convincing but never existed. DFX SplatCore takes a different route. It captures objects that already exist. The digital result therefore points back to something that can be visited, bought, touched, preserved or documented.

The web stayed flat for a long time

The internet was originally built to transmit text, images and later video. These media are extraordinarily successful, but they remain essentially two-dimensional.

A photo of a handmade piece of furniture can show its shape. What it cannot convey is the back, the way the surface behaves at an angle to the light, or the spatial detail that appears when you step closer. A video can offer several perspectives, but it still decides in which direction and how far the viewer reads the scene.

Anyone who can handle a camera

Producing web-ready 3D content was a specialist discipline for a long time. It called for 3D modelling, photogrammetry, texturing, mesh editing, rendering and web development. For many small businesses, cultural institutions and craft workshops, that technical hurdle was simply too high.

The decisive skill is not a computer science degree, nor training in 3D graphics. The decisive skill is photographing a real subject sensibly. The complex processing is handled by the software.

That said, not every shoot yields equally good results. Light, sharpness, angle and how thoroughly the subject is covered remain decisive. The task is clearly defined: photograph an object or a place from a range of sensible perspectives, rather than building a complete 3D model by hand.

Turning images into spatial experiences

This approach applies wherever real things are to be discovered, understood or explained online.

A restaurant can present its dining room not just with a handful of photos, but as a visual space to move through. A prospective guest looks at the room before booking and reads its atmosphere, its seating areas, its design. The internet does not replace the visit here. It makes the decision to come easier.

A hotel can open up rooms, surroundings or particular lounge areas interactively. A hiking trail, a viewpoint or a historic room is no longer represented by a single cover image. The visitor gains a spatial impression before setting off.

A craft workshop can present a one-off piece without reducing it to a short series of product photos. Material, form, workmanship and detail become visible from different angles. Precisely where quality lies in the detail, a spatial presentation can make the difference between glancing and genuinely understanding.

Museums and cultural institutions face a further challenge. They look after objects that are often fragile, rare or tied to one place. A digital 3D representation cannot replace the original. It can help to document it, explain it and open it to a wider audience. Visitors can turn objects on their own screen, explore details and discover connections through interactive information.

As these examples show, digital representation does not lead away from reality. It improves access to it.

Technology as a tool for getting work done

Technology should make work easier, not put up new hurdles.

DFX SplatCore turns footage of a real subject into an interactive representation. Users do not have to juggle a chain of interdependent specialist programs, assemble a complex 3D pipeline by hand, or accept permanent dependence on the cloud.

Processing runs locally, on your own machine. Footage and working results stay with the user. This is not only a matter of data protection. Practical control is decisive: whoever fully controls their own data, projects and tools can see what they are working with and what comes out of it.

The economics matter just as much. Creative and professional tools should not come with the condition that their users keep paying merely for the possibility of using them. A tool is at its most useful when it belongs to the person using it and does not tie them into an endless chain of rent.

The third dimension is added, it does not take over

The fact that the web still runs on images and video will not change overnight. Photographs are a fast, direct and universally understood way of passing on information. Video remains an essential part of modern communication, especially where movement, time or narrative are what matter.

But there is content for which two dimensions are not enough.

A finely made object, a distinctive room, a historical artefact or a product with spatial qualities can become clearer, more credible and more accessible in three dimensions. The representation gains a dimension without loosening its tie to reality.
